Ira Ruskin Visits Selby Lane

Ira Ruskin

On October 15, California State Assemblymember Ira Ruskin (D-Palo Alto) paid a visit to the YES Reading Center at Selby Lane School in the Redwood City School District.  Assemblymember Ruskin, accompanied by his District Director Richelle Noroyan, toured the Center and observed YES Reading in action with a great group of tutors and students.  A few students had worked on a welcome banner, which the Assemblymember noticed immediately and greatly enjoyed--he will now be hanging it in his office.

After talking with staff and the Selby Lane principal, Assemblymember Ruskin spoke for a few moments to the students and volunteers working in the center.  He remarked on the energy and enthusiasm that he felt when he first set foot in the Center and congratulated everyone on the great work YES Reading is doing at the school.  He was especially impressed by the 87% success rate in narrowing reading skills gaps that YES Reading students had last year and he encouraged the children to keep up the good work.
