Literacy Tip

Comprehension Strategy - “A Picture Walk ”

A significant step of literacy development is being able to retell the sequence of events of a story.
Even the youngest readers (kindergardeners and first grade students) can practice retelling short stories by doing a picture walk or story map.
A picture walk is simply the process of the student retelling the story by following each page or picture in a story book. While young students might not be able to write words, drawings are the primary way that young children communicate their thoughts. Students can practice reviewing the sequence of events of a story by drawing simple pictures of the beginning, middle, and end of a story to communicate their reflection of the story.

Good Luck!
